During the 2016 presidential campaigns, Secretary Hillary Clinton warned that Donald Trump, the now twice-impeached ex-president who lost the popular vote twice, was a puppet of President Vladimir Putin of Russia. As the world watched him cozy up to Putin and take his side in arguments about his cyber attacks on the United States over his own intelligence experts, we all realized just how right she was.
I am praying for the people of Ukraine.
The world will hold Russia and Putin accountable for the human suffering and destruction this unjustified and unprovoked war will bring.

That recognition is happening once against as Russia moves troops into Ukraine under the false pretense of protecting the Russian people from the much smaller, poorer, and less equipped people of Ukraine, a bordering country that stands as a barrier between Russia and the Russian-annexed country of Crimea.
Putin became even more escalated when NATO countries began to discuss bringing Ukraine into their fold and under their protection. Dismantling NATO has been a priority for Putin, a priority he was able to set aside under the leadership of Trump, who headed up the only real superpower that could challenge him. Trump actively worked to dismantle NATO and denigrate our allies, giving Putin all the leeway he needed to operate as he chose without the threat of NATO countries preventing him from amassing more power.
Secretary Clinton tweeted a message of solidarity today with the Ukrainian people, a message which she understands the importance of almost better than anyone else on the planet. As Russia moves into Ukraine and begins their invasion, the United States must stand up to him to prevent the repeated rise of communism and a repeat of the superpower once amassed by the U.S.S.R.
