Russian President Vladimir Putin can only maintain his attacks on Ukraine for so long without the influx of money coming into the country, now stopped thanks to the sanctions imposed by NATO countries, and the support of the oligarchs who hoard Russian money. In the Netherlands, those oligarchs were dealt another blow that will affect their feelings about Putin and his war.

The government of the Netherlands reports that 14 superyachts were seized by the Dutch customs authorities on Wednesday. In a letter to the Dutch parliament, foreign minister Wopke Hoekstra said that, of the 14 yachts seized, 12 were still under construction. The vessels are unable to be sold or transferred as a result of the sanctions against Russia.
According to Business Insider:
‘The letter didn’t disclose who owns the yachts and said that authorities were investigating the matter further. The shipyards were made aware of the status of the yachts, Hoekstra added. Hoekstra said in the letter that the people linked to the yachts weren’t on the EU sanctions lists but the government was looking into the possibility of one yacht having connections with a Russian oligarch who has been sanctioned by the union, AFP reported.’
Twitter was thrilled to hear the news, hoping that these efforts will eventually convince Putin to end his attack on Ukraine. Read some of their comments below:
