Trump Melts Down After Merrick Garland Escalates Investigation

Donald Trump does not have a firm grasp of reality. On a consistent basis, his rhetoric simply doesn’t accurately reflect what’s happening. Instead, it’s based in apparent embarrassing self-obsession and a sniveling insistence he’s right — and that’s pretty much it.

“The Mayor of Washington, D.C., wants the National Guard to help with the thousands of Illegal Immigrants, coming from the insane Open Border, that are flooding the City, but refused National Guard help when it came to providing Security at the Capitol Building for a far larger crowd on January 6th. Figure that one out?” Trump ranted on Truth Social this Friday. Firstly, there’s no apparent evidence D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser blocked any kind of National Guard deployment to protect the Capitol on January 6. Trump’s repeatedly referenced this supposed stand-off involving an alleged push on his side for troop deployments and what basically amount to blockades of the effort by Bowser and Nancy Pelosi — but that’s all nonsense. There was never any presidential order for thousands of National Guard troops to protect the Capitol, as Trump’s seemingly insinuated he issued.

Then-acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller confirmed in testimony to the House panel investigating the Capitol riot no such order existed. No matter any deliberations by members of the Capitol Police board and other officials about security measures for January 6, what appears to be the clear case is Trump could’ve deployed additional National Guard troops for Capitol protection of his own accord — and he didn’t. There’s not even the apparent authority on Pelosi or Bowser’s part to block a presidential deployment of at least the D.C. National Guard.

Meanwhile, Trump on Friday excluded the reason thousands of migrants are actually arriving in Washington, D.C. — authorities in Arizona and Texas are busing them there, engaging in what’s basically brazen political grandstanding at the expense of those from outside the country who need assistance. Both programs are voluntary in nature, meaning the migrants aren’t technically forced to make the journey — but with few options and state authorities apparently more interested in using available resources for theatrics, those journeys aren’t undertaken in a vacuum.

Bowser’s request for National Guard assistance drew criticism over the potential for unnecessary militarization. The idea from Bowser’s team is apparently for National Guard personnel to help transporting migrants to a yet-to-be finalized place, where migrants could temporarily stay and obtain assistance with further accommodations. Trump’s continuing anxiety about January 6-related matters and apparent desperation to basically prove his innocence — while he simultaneously tries to essentially justify what took place — should now be understood in the context of the recent revelation the Justice Department is finally asking questions about actions Trump himself took after the last election, in contexts including that of the scheme to assemble fake electors for Trump in states Biden won. Quite simply, investigations aren’t stopping, no matter the former president’s complaints.

Trump also whined on Truth Social this Friday about Pelosi as news stories circulate about a planned visit on her part to Taiwan. “Why is Nancy Pelosi getting involved with China and Taiwan other than to make trouble and more money, possibly involving insider trading and information, for her cheatin’ husband?” Trump furiously ranted. “Everything she touches turns to Chaos, Disruption, and “Crap” (her second big Congress “flop” happening now!), and the China mess is the last thing she should be involved in – She will only make it worse. Crazy Nancy just inserts herself and causes great friction and hatred. She is such a mess!!!”
