Trump Suffers Sunday Conniption Fit As Merrick Garland Closes In

Donald Trump’s apparent impression of his poll numbers doesn’t exactly match the actual numbers.

In a Sunday rant on his social media platform Truth Social, he once again claimed resoundingly impressive numbers, insisting Democrats are concerned about running against him more than they’re worried about any other potential GOP presidential pick. In actuality, some of the most recent polling pitting Biden and Trump against each other for a possible rematch showed Biden winning (although the portrait is mixed, and some shows Trump leading). When pitting Biden against Florida GOP Governor Ron DeSantis for a potential presidential face-off, the governor’s standing isn’t far off from Trump’s level of support. In recent YouGov/ Yahoo News polling, DeSantis nabbed 42 percent of the support among registered voters, and Biden got 45 percent. For registered voters asked about Biden against Trump, the numbers broke down exactly the same: 45 percent for Biden, 42 percent for Trump. The ex-president’s not unique in polling terms.

“All polls STRONGLY indicate that I am the candidate that Democrats LEAST want to run against, by far, hence the politically motivated Raid on Mar-a- Lago – Which has backfired, big time!” Trump insisted Sunday. “I beat them twice, did much better the second time (many millions more votes than the first!), and may just have to do it again. Our Country is going to Hell!” Actually, the Biden administration continues implementing policies that deliver real-world benefits to Americans, from the infrastructure package Biden signed that continues supporting infrastructure initiatives to the recently signed Inflation Reduction Act, which contains the largest single investment by the U.S. government in fighting climate change in history. People benefit from fighting climate change just like the environment does. As pollution decreases in the short-term through means like the massive investment in electric vehicles contained in the inflation-oriented bill, those in vulnerable communities can live less threatened lives.

Trump also complained about Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) on Sunday. “The Fake News Media has badly soiled Liz Cheney, who has just suffered the biggest defeat of a sitting Congressperson in history (broke the record of another Impeacher, Tom Rice of South Carolina!), losing by 40 points, all over the place doing interviews that nobody wants to hear,” Trump claimed early Sunday. “No wonder their ratings are sooo BAD. Her record setting horrible results were a referendum on the Unselect Committee of political Hacks and Thugs, of which she is definitely one! Amazing how they keep her on the air?” It remains remarkable how desperate he sounds. He’s really trying to make it a thing that the recent loss Cheney suffered in her Wyoming primary is some kind of “referendum” on the House committee investigating the Capitol riot, where she’s vice chair. Ultimately, Wyoming is just one state.

In August Fox polling, respondents were asked: “How important do you think it is for Congress and the Justice Department to investigate the events that took place at the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, 2021?” A full 65 percent of overall respondents said it was “very” or “somewhat” important, and just 33 percent indicated a belief it wasn’t important.
