Today one of the bravest, most dedicated patriots gave his farewell speech from the floor of the House of Representatives. Lt. Colonel in the Air National Guard and Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) had to leave his office, because he spoke truth to power and kept his oath of office.
The active duty military man wrote a few moments before his “final speech:”
‘In a few minutes, I will deliver my final speech as a U.S. Congressman on the House floor. Even though my time here in Congress is coming to an end, I stand here renewing my promise to leave this country a far better place than the one I inherited…’
Then Kinzinger said that even had he known the cost of telling the truth would “cost me my job, friendships, and even my persona; security, I would without hesitation do it all over again:”
‘Had I known that standing up for the truth would cost me my job, friendships, and even my personal security, I would without hesitation, do it all over again.’
The Illinois representative pinned to his Twitter page a message for all. He pointed out that “America was attacked” on January 6, 2021:
‘America was attacked, and we deserve to know why and how it happened. This moment is bigger than all of us—the future of our country is on the line. And we must be fearless in our pursuit of the truth.’
Even though the active duty military man’s family was threatened, the Illinois representative stood firm on his decision to serve on the January 6 Select Committee as one of two Republicans. The Committee will halt at the end of this session when the GOP takes over the House with the slimmest of margins.
Kinzinger was in the Air Force in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He received the U.S. Air Force Airman’s Medal for saving a woman who was being attacked in 2007, according to his House page:
‘[This brave man] wrestled the knife away from the attacker and pinned him to the ground until the police arrived. He was also awarded the National Guard’s Valley Forge Cross for Heroism and was selected as the Southeastern Wisconsin American Red Cross Hero of the Year.’
The Twitter messages to the Illinois representative followed a grateful theme. Dr. Dena Grayson, MD, PhD tweeted:
‘Rep. @AdamKinzinger’s farewell speech: “Had I know that standing up for #truth would cost me my job, friendships, and even my personal security, I would, without hesitation, do it all over again.”
‘Thank you for your service, Adam.’
‘Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, my radical liberal heart as your colleagues would consider me, for your honesty, integrity, and truth, keeping. You’ve made the ultimate sacrifice for your country, and will go down in history as thus.’
A grandmother with dual American and Canadian citizenship tweeted:
‘I am a liberal, but sincerely thank you for your integrity, honesty, courage and dedication to country over party. Thank you for your service. I wish you every success in your future endeavors!’
A longtime military wife tweeted:
‘I’m not a fan of some of ur voting record, but thank U for standing up for our country, the constitution, & our democracy. Something those who have been in the military/military family, or worked in civil service… we would die for this country & democracy<3’
And a “proud veteran” tweeted:
‘Even though I’m often critical of politicians… and we may not see eye to eye…. I respect that you stood your ground for what you believe is right.’
