‘Spiritual War’: Marjorie Greene Enters Crazytown With Bonkers, Bigoted Rant

Is Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.)… afraid of gay people?

While that’s obviously a bit of an extreme thing to suggest, the prominent Georgia Congresswoman posted comments online this Monday that deliver a bizarre perspective on, well, just about everything. In a follow-up post on her personal account, she identified her ramblings as stemming from having overheard LGBTQ+ pride celebrations in Washington, D.C., which is known as a very Democratic Party-leaning city.

“The rot in America is driven by a spiritual war,” she ranted, getting off to a terrible start. “The sexualization of our children has grown into a permanently damaging crisis. Child sex trafficking across the border and inside the United States is at levels that should shake our core. Over 85,000 missing migrant children and child labor camps in America is unthinkable. Over 63 million babies, human beings, people aborted before they ever had a chance at life. And America spreads this filth across the world. God fearing Americans must restore our country and end the spiritual war waged on our children.”

…child labor camps? What is she talking about? While there have recently been isolated reports of minors employed in potentially dangerous circumstances, there doesn’t appear to be any kind of realistic evidence of some kind of organized conspiracy underlying those dismal situations. Something similar would also apply, of course, to claims about the “sexualization” of children. If LGBTQ+ people merely existing is too much for Greene to handle, then what’s next? Is she going to try and ban every Disney movie where a princess and prince kiss? In general, her reference to child sex trafficking also seems, in context, like a direct nod to the QAnon conspiracy movement, which alleges a vast, global network involving that terrible act.

One of the key problems here is that Greene maintains such a high profile. She is very publicly allied with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, and she’s even been feared as a vice presidential pick alongside Trump considering her closeness with the former president, who continues his 2024 presidential run.
