House GOP Fed Up With Lauren Boebert As She Tries To Force Biden Impeachment

According to CNN’s Manu Raju, some Republicans in the House are frustrated with Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) following her move to force a vote in the chamber on her push to impeach President Joe Biden.

“House GOP members not happy with Lauren Boebert for forcing a vote to impeach Joe Biden,” Raju wrote Wednesday on Twitter. “In conference, Speaker [McCarthy] argued against it, per attendees. Many are opposed. And even a backer, MTG, [criticized] Boebert for copying her impeachment resolution, calling her a “copy cat.”” Introducing something called a privileged resolution in the House ordinarily forces a vote by the chamber, though there’s not a guarantee that such will succeed. Also, “MTG” refers to Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who recently introduced her own proposed impeachment of the president.

For some reason, trying to impeach Biden and other top officials has recently become a popular idea for Republicans like Boebert and Greene. Others who’ve been targeted by House Republicans’ various proposed impeachments include Vice President Kamala Harris and Alejandro Mayorkas, who presently serves as Secretary of Homeland Security.

In a fashion similar to some of these other proposals for impeachment, the measure that Boebert is pushing raises complaints about the president’s handling of the southern border and has included outright lies about what has been seen there. A version of the initiative made available on Congress.gov alleged that criminal organizations had taken complete control of the southern border, which doesn’t in any meaningful way reflect reality.

“President Biden’s negligence of duty has resulted in the surrender of operational control of the border to the complete and total control of foreign, criminal cartels—putting the lives of American citizens in jeopardy,” Boebert’s proposed articles said. As of early Wednesday, Boebert’s push only had three formal cosponsors, which while not an automatic sign of impending failure wasn’t a great start. Greene wasn’t among those who’d added their names to the resolution. Also soon to be voted upon by the full House will — again — be the proposed censure of Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), which would basically constitute a formal rebuke if enacted. Pushing for such has become a pet project of first-term Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.).
