Maxine Waters Rebukes Lauren Boebert’s Ignorance During Debate In Congress

During recent debate in Congress over a proposal that would undo recent government actions meant to make the loan market easier for disadvantaged individuals to access, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) easily refuted ignorant and self-assured nonsense from Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), who offered an amendment.

Boebert’s amendment, which she characterized to her colleagues in dramatic language, was set to formally mandate that the results of certain research undertaken by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) be posted online, available for public perusal. The GAO already does this exact sort of thing on a routine basis, leaving Waters incredulous at what had come up in the chamber.

“My commonsense amendment will provide transparency for the administration to answer to the American people,” the Coloradan insisted in Congress. “The latest FHFA fee change could result in thousands of dollars in additional fees for lower risk homeowners over time, while encouraging and rewarding financial irresponsibility. This is a gross overreach and will ultimately contribute to the growing inflation problem we have in this country.” FHFA refers to the Federal Housing Finance Agency, a government team.

“Well, actually, I don’t even want to waste another minute on this pointless and redundant amendment,” Waters told Congress, speaking directly after Boebert’s commentary. “Anyone who pays attention to government oversight knows that the GAO already makes all of its reports resulting from legislative mandates publicly available on the GAO’s website as soon as they are issued to Congress… Again, I don’t understand why we are spending time on this amendment. It does not accomplish anything at all. It would require GAO to do something it already does.”

It’s honestly incredibly ridiculous for the situation to have been as Waters describes it. This general idea drives so much of the recent Republican record, though. First-term Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) has, for some godforsaken reason, introduced what are apparently five different proposed measures dealing with Adam Schiff, the California Democrat — which is a majority of the measures she herself has sponsored rather than cosponsored. That’s her agenda? Adam Schiff?
