Former President Donald Trump continues to respond to the mounting legal troubles he is facing in characteristically antagonistic ways.

In comments on Truth Social this weekend, he appeared to reference debunked conspiracy theories about some kind of relationship between Nancy Pelosi’s husband and the man who attacked and injured him with a hammer at a residence of the couple’s in California. He seemingly blamed Pelosi for the attack on her husband, whose name is Paul. The assailant expressed anti-government animus and was seeking the then-Speaker.

“I purposely didn’t comment on Nancy Pelosi’s very weird story concerning her husband, but now I can because she said something about me, with glee, that was really quite vicious,” Trump posted. ““I saw a scared puppy,” she said, as she watched me on television, like millions of others, that didn’t see that. I wasn’t “scared.” Nevertheless, how mean a thing to say! She is a Wicked Witch whose husbands journey from hell starts and finishes with her. She is a sick & demented psycho who will someday live in HELL!”

Trump, in other words, is now essentially imagining the day when Pelosi, who remains in Congress as a Democratic member of the U.S. House despite stepping aside from her leadership role, will die. He glosses over the role that his own rhetoric has held — as stated by those involved — in inspiring threats of violence to leading political figures like Pelosi, who was specifically targeted by rioters at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The newer comments from Pelosi to which Trump is referring related to the process of his first appearance in court after facing new charges for his targeting of results from the 2020 presidential election.

After that appearance, which he made in D.C., he also took to maligning the nation’s capital city, falsely characterizing its recent murder rate and pushing for a federal takeover of the jurisdiction, which he calls “filthy.”
