Former President Donald Trump may soon face a fourth criminal case, this time in Georgia from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Like his most recent charges, the expected case in Georgia is oriented around attempts by the former president and allies of his after the 2020 presidential election to effectively overturn its outcome, meaning Joe Biden’s documented victory.

On Saturday, Trump called Willis “racist” in one of his latest diatribes posted to Truth Social. It’s unclear why. Is Trump trying to run with the fact that she happens to be Black and happens to be investigating issues related to him?

“I hear that RACIST Fulton County (Atlanta) District Attorney “Phoney”Fani Willis, who weakly presides over one of the deadliest communities in the U.S., with thousands of murderers, violent criminals & gang members roaming the streets while going untried, free, & are treated with “kid gloves,” is using a potential Indictment of me, and other innocent people, as a campaign and fundraising CON JOB, all based on a PERFECT PHONE CALL, AS PRESIDENT, CHALLENGING ELECTION FRAUD – MY DUTY & RIGHT!” Trump posted this weekend. He is referring to his conversation with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger after the last presidential election when he pressured the top elections official in the southeastern state for action on the 2020 election results.

Trump’s characterization of Fulton County as harboring “thousands” of generally violent criminals who are evading serious scrutiny from law enforcement is not realistic, just like the Republican insistence that the southern border of the U.S. is “open” is not true to the reality at hand. Trump and Republican allies of his, though, have often returned to similar complaints, characterizing areas where Democrats are in charge as dangerous to an extreme extent. Remember when Trump spoke dismissively about COVID-19 deaths in so-called blue states while in office as president? Trump has repeatedly lost in court fights within Georgia over the progression of Willis’s investigation, failing in a push to force Willis’s exit from the sprawling probe.
