Trump Posts Another Desperate Screed After His Attempts To Delay Probe Keep Failing

Former President Donald Trump continues wheeling out a wide variety of attempted defenses as he faces three, and soon possibly four, criminal cases. The expected fourth case would be from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in Georgia and is oriented around attempts by the former president and allies of his after the 2020 presidential election to meddle with its outcome, meaning Joe Biden’s documented victory.

With it unclear where he even got the unsubstantiated notion, Trump has now claimed again that Willis may have had an affair with a member of an alleged gang that she’s now targeting in another prosecution. Again, there’s no supporting evidence to back up this notion, and the origin for the idea isn’t even clear.

“Why is “Phoney” (Like in PERFECT “PHONE” CALL, get it?) Fani Willis, the severely underperforming D.A. of Fulton County who is being accused of having an “affair” with a Gang Member of a group that she is prosecuting, leaking my name in regard to a Grand Jury pertaining to Election Fraud & Irregularities that I say took place in Georgia,” Trump posted in an early Sunday rant. “I made a PERFECT PHONE CALL OF PROTEST. What does Phoney Fani have to do with me? She should instead focus on the record number of murders in Atlanta!”

He is referring, again, to his phone conversation with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger after the 2020 election, when he pressured Raffensperger for action on that year’s presidential election results. (Raffensperger, a Republican, didn’t comply.) Trump is the one who has taken the lead in publicizing the baseless claim about Willis, having pushed it earlier at a rally. Though it’s unclear where the media outlets sharing the information got their details, Willis is expected to make a presentation of her case to a grand jury this week, which means criminal charges, which would need approval from such a body, could come soon after (within days).
