Former President Donald Trump sounds concerned about the case soon going to trial from New York state Attorney General Letitia James alleging years of financial misrepresentations at his family business. On Tuesday, Trump was posting online about the dispute well before sunrise on the East Coast.

He directly stated that some of the financial statements associated with past business moves of his were, in fact, incorrect… though he claimed that, rather than overstating relevant values, the figures were understating the truth. That is still off-base and, depending on the context, could still deliver a financial win for the former president and his business.

“In the New York State Case against me by Trump Hating Attorney General Letitia James, who campaigned on “I will get TRUMP,” a case that never should have been brought, I have easily shown & proven that I am worth Billions of Dollars more than information listed on my Financial Statements, all of which have a very strong Disclaimer Clause & protective language, and show very little Debt, most of which has been paid off, or is current, with Hundreds of Millions of Dollars of Cash on Hand,” Trump told his followers before 6 a.m.

He sounded especially desperate by the time he reached the end of his diatribe. “We did everything right, and it would be a great honor to be totally exonerated by a Judge who has thus far shown tremendous hostility to me!” he added, suggesting a scenario that there’s just no real-world indication is actually realistic. That judge, New York’s Arthur Engoron, recently rejected a push from the Trumps’ corner for a last-minute delay before trial. A hearing was previously scheduled for later this month to examine a push from James for a summary judgment from the judge related to some of the claims she brought, which would involve Engoron going ahead and ruling in the attorney general’s favor on certain elements of the broader dispute.
