Polling continues to show Americans generally behind the idea that former President Donald Trump has violated the law, even as his incessant attacks on the attempted administration of justice against him continue.

Polling done by Marist in association with NPR and PBS NewsHour last month showed a full 49 percent of Americans believe the former president to have committed an illegal act. Among just registered voters, the portion agreeing with that idea reached 50 percent. And alongside these figures, the portions saying that Trump hasn’t done anything wrong didn’t account for all the rest, as there were also categories for the belief that Trump has acted unethically but not illegally, and a lot of the remaining respondents placed themselves there. For registered voters, an additional 26 percent of the overall total went with the idea Trump did something unethical but not against the law among the acts that have led to the four criminal cases he is facing and other proceedings.

In another notable group, suburban women, 58 percent agreed that Trump had seemingly committed an illegal act. None of these figures have particularly positive implications for Trump’s ongoing run for president — which also remains challenged by several active court cases on the basis of the Constitutional restrictions around individuals who engaged in insurrection later holding office if their role came after an earlier oath to defend the nation’s guiding document, as Trump took when he first became president.

Oral arguments before the Minnesota Supreme Court will reportedly be happening next month, with high-profile cases making these claims having now been filed in that state, Michigan, and Colorado. Electoral polling also suggests struggles for Trump, with a new Susquehanna Polling & Research survey from the all-important state of Pennsylvania showing Biden in the lead in a rematch next year of 2020!
