Rep. Becca Balint (D-Vt.) took to the House floor this week to push for a censure of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who unfortunately might be in her seat for awhile considering the heavily Republican lean of her district, which places her in contrast with, for instance, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.).

Balint raised concerns about a resolution that Greene herself introduced seeking a censure of Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.). Tlaib and her family are Palestinian, and as a new round of violence has emerged in the Middle East between the terror group Hamas and Israel, some on the Republican side have turned against Tlaib in the context of her expressions of support for the Palestinian people — an interest separate from Hamas, which terrorizes them too. Greene is accusing Tlaib of support for terrorists. “Rashida Tlaib is an anti-Semite, pro-Hamas, and led an insurrection into the Capitol complex,” Greene alleged, tying the Michigan legislator to recent demonstrations inside a building that wasn’t even the Capitol itself. It’s a pattern of misrepresentation.

Balint identified what she’d done as noticing a privileged resolution, which per the rules of the House will mean that there will be a vote in the chamber on the question within two “legislative days” of her taking that move.

“Rep. Taylor Greene’s resolution to censure Rep. Tlaib is an overt Islamophobic attack on the only Palestinian-American member of Congress. Her resolution is riddled with lies. It’s bigoted. It’s dangerous. This kind of rhetoric fans the flames of hate and fear at a time when Muslim Americans are already facing increased threats and violence. Rep. Tlaib is a valued legislator, a fighter for her community, and a friend. This attack, based on bigotry and conspiracy theories, has no place in the House,” Balint said Thursday. Another group in Congress is also now pushing a resolution calling for the expulsion of Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.), the serially lying Congressman who also now faces another round of criminal charges… so the House quickly got busy this week!
