In a portion of an interview on the network highlighted by MSNBC, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — former House Speaker — condemned the current occupant of that position, Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.). She characterized him as not respecting the Constitution as Republicans, now under his leadership, gear up to ostensibly formalize an impeachment inquiry targeting President Joe Biden on the basis of at least suspected ties to ostensibly corrupt business dealings that involved family members of his. No evidence has substantiated such connections.

“He says he has no choice,” Pelosi said of Johnson’s approach to the unfolding impeachment inquiry pushed by House Republicans. “The fact is, he has no respect — no respect for the Constitution of the United States, no respect for his own members who he’s asking to vote for an impeachment with no basis.”

Republicans have already been conducting investigative work in this area despite the lack of a formalizing vote from the chamber as a whole. Investigative turns so far have included their unfolding pursuit of testimony from the president’s son Hunter Biden, who was recently hit with a federal indictment on tax charges… which again did not implicate the president. The younger Biden expressed openness to testifying in specifically a public setting, a possibility, at least at the outset, that Republican committee leaders have rejected. GOP Reps. James Comer (Ky.) on the House Oversight Committee and Jim Jordan (Ohio) on the chamber’s Judiciary panel have been pursuing Hunter.

Republicans have gone so far that they subpoenaed a woman who purchased art originating with Hunter and have accumulated documents known as Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) tied to individuals of interest. SARs are entirely inconclusive by nature, as they’re filed proactively to provide investigating authorities with the basis to respond as they may find appropriate.
