Georgians Seek To ‘Immediately’ Start Procuring $148 Million From Rudy Giuliani

Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, the mother and daughter who as election workers in Georgia in 2020 became the subject of debunked but persistent conspiracy theories alleging they were involved in election fraud, are seeking the opportunity for immediate enforcement of a recent $148 million judgment they won against Rudy Giuliani.

Jurors awarded that financial penalty amid a defamation case from Freeman and Moss over Giuliani’s role in spreading lies about them — lies that spurred threats to the duo’s safety.

In a court filing, Freeman and Moss seek developments including the immediate opportunity to, as it’s termed, “register their judgment” — meaning bring it forth — in other judicial districts where they can target any assets held by the Trump ally within those jurisdictions. The mother and daughter are trying to get around routine delays in enforcing judgments like the $148 million jury ruling against Giuliani, citing concerns including his history of refusing to pay up in this very case when put under earlier sanctions.

“Both Rule 62(a) and § 1963 are designed to permit immediate enforcement in precisely these circumstances: Defendant Giuliani has proven himself to be an exceptionally recalcitrant litigant, and has demonstrated an unwillingness to comply with judicial process, including orders to pay attorney’s fees and costs,” the new filing says, pointing to Giuliani’s past refusals to even comply with the routine discovery process before trial. “Moreover, Defendant Giuliani appears to have no assets in the District of Columbia but substantial assets in—at least—both New York and Florida. There is a substantial risk that Defendant Giuliani will find a way to dissipate those assets before Plaintiffs are able to recover. Finally, Defendant Giuliani is widely reported to have other, significant debts threatening his personal solvency.”

Giuliani has recently been again propagating roughly the same lies about Freeman and Moss, leading to another federal lawsuit from the duo against him in which they’re seeking an injunction blocking him from making such statements rather than additional monetary penalties. Giuliani could be subject to increasing consequences — like the possibility of imprisonment — if he continues to just not comply with proceedings.
