GOP’s Mike Lee Roasted For Pretending Trump’s Issue Is Just ‘Mean Tweets’

Endorsements continue coming for Donald Trump as he seeks Republicans’ presidential nomination for this year’s elections, remaining — per polling, most critically — on track to, in fact, nab that nomination later this year. Now, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) has officially endorsed Trump’s latest campaign, and in a message on that endorsement posted to X (formerly Twitter), he seemed to say the main problem with Trump as he perceived it was just “mean tweets.”

“Whether you like Trump or not, Americans face a binary choice. Biden refuses to enforce our border, prosecutes his opponents, & embraces policies that make life unaffordable for hardworking Americans. I’ll take the mean tweets. I choose Trump,” Lee said, glossing over the figures actually involved in border enforcement who have said that agents didn’t just stop enforcing federal rules covering the area! The border, in other words, is not “open” under any reasonable assessment of that concept.

And though the problems continue, Lee is also factually incorrect to link President Joe Biden to prosecutions that Trump is facing. There’s no specific evidence that Biden is actually involved! Members of the prosecution team going after Trump in a federal case have said they’d quit if the scenario was reversed.

Joe Scarborough, a former GOP Congressman and current host on MSNBC, called Lee’s attention to some of Trump’s other issues. “The mean tweets? Really? That’s all that bothers you? What about the promises of a dictatorship, the execution of generals insufficiently loyal, the banning of news outlets insufficiently loyal, the jailing of political opponents, the termination of the US Constitution, the praise of Communist leaders across the globe?” Scarborough said. He also reminded Lee and others that the GOP primary is actually still ongoing.

Another elected Republican to recently endorse Trump was Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who was roasted for claiming in an endorsement message that things were just so much better with Trump president, ignoring how economic upheaval and extensive public health problems quite literally capped off his four years in office!
