Trump Suggested He Looks Like Elvis Presley Because… Of Course He Did

In a bizarre post on Truth Social, which is his knock-off social media site, Donald Trump this week suggested that he visually resembles the deceased singer Elvis Presley.

Trump posted an image edited to pair one side of Presley’s face with part of his own face, captioning it: “For so many years people have been saying that Elvis and I look alike. Now this pic has been going all over the place. What do you think?”

Notably, he posted the image fewer than five minutes after an all-caps screed again demanding absolute immunity for presidents, by which he means judicial agreement with the concept that presidents can do anything amid the duties of the role without potentially facing criminal prosecution. Trump has raised this argument in the context of a criminal case from Special Counsel Jack Smith challenging him over his post-2020 election schemes to stay in power despite losing.

In Trump’s corner, there’s recently been some outrage and bizarre hand-wringing over the popular singer Taylor Swift, with examples from the strange suggestion on Fox News that she’s some kind of secret agent of the federal government to influencers who support Trump batting around their own versions of the idea that she’s a plant. (Even a spokesperson for the actual Defense Department joined the mockery of that idea that somehow popped up on Fox.) Mike Crispi, a failed GOP candidate for Congress in New Jersey, recently said on X (formerly Twitter) that the NFL is “RIGGED” for Swift and her current partner (a player on the Kansas City Chiefs) to advance “DEMOCRAT PROPAGANDA.”

Needless to say, there’s no real evidence for this. But you could imagine this sudden and “out there” post from Trump as perhaps a reaction from his circles as he tries to make himself retake some limelight. He’s often paid close attention to the course of public conversations, from his own treatment in pop culture to the subject generally.
