The Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors — an entity operating amid bankruptcy proceedings ensnaring former New York City mayor and longtime Trump ally Rudy Giuliani — wants the struggling public figure to be forced to sell off his Florida condo, and there’s a hearing coming up soon (next month) to consider the request.

The committee also asked that he be compelled to obtain homeowner’s insurance for both the condo and an additional residence in New York City… suggesting, perhaps, the sought preservation of financial possibilities associated with the latter spot. In other words, maybe they’ll go after it for compensation purposes too.

Giuliani’s wide-ranging financial demands include nearly $150 million in penalties imposed after losing a defamation case brought by former Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, who Giuliani named in false conspiracy theories alleging widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential race. Freeman and Moss faced real-world threats to their safety in the wake of those lies spreading. Giuliani, meanwhile, was eventually found liable by default — spurring the eventually large financial penalties — after he failed to comply with basic procedural demands leading up to trial, which then covered just the question of how much to impose in penalties.

He was also sued last year over allegations of an additional nearly $1.5 million in legal fees that he still owed. And he’s among those criminally charged in the Georgia case that infamously also loops in Trump, suggesting the eventual possibility of prison time for the former mayor… though the few defendants who’ve pleaded guilty haven’t received jail sentences. Giuliani was extensively involved in promoting lies about the 2020 presidential election and was even sued again after the Freeman/Moss case’s conclusion after he kept advancing the lies, though they weren’t seeking financial penalties that time.

Giuliani took possession of the targeted Florida residence in tandem with a divorce after originally acquiring it with his then-wife, and it was also involved in a tax lien reportedly imposed by federal authorities over unpaid income taxes on Giuliani’s part, though someone close to the ex-mayor said he worked out an arrangement with the feds.
