Trump Singles Out A Federal Agency That Doesn’t Appear To Actually Exist

On his knock-off social media site this Thursday, former President Donald Trump invoked a federal agency that doesn’t appear to actually exist.

He was complaining — again — about his wide-ranging criminal cases, which include local charges in Manhattan accusing him of falsifying business records in connection with hush money from before the 2016 elections.

“Judge Juan Merchan is totally compromised, and should be removed from this TRUMP Non-Case immediately. […] [Merchan’s daughter] works for Crooked Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Adam “Shifty” Schiff, and other Radical Leftists who Campaign on “Getting Trump,” and fundraise off the “Biden Indictments” – including this Witch Hunt, which her father “presides” over, a TOTAL Conflict – and attacking Biden’s Political Opponent through the Courts. Former D.A. Cy Vance refused to bring this case, as did all Federal Agencies, including “Elections,”” Trump claimed to his followers.

“Elections” is not a federal agency.

There’s an arm of government known as the Federal Election Commission (FEC), which does not have the power to bring criminal charges and is generally known by its initials. And while there are some personnel within the Justice Department whose areas of work single out political concerns, they don’t work under the “Elections” moniker. For instance, the Justice Department has a Public Integrity Section — which isn’t called “Elections”! — that focuses on criminal matters involving the functioning of government.

Besides, Trump’s federal cases are handled by a Special Counsel appointed to focus solely on these matters, though ultimately defendants beyond just Trump have faced charges.

Trump is facing outrage for his incessant targeting of the New York judge’s daughter, but a recent gag order from the case — which is set for trial within weeks — doesn’t appear to include specific restrictions on Trump publicly going after family members of the judge, possibly creating an opening for expanding the limits on Trump.
