Trump Suffers Desperate, Public Meltdown With Mere Hours Until Trial Gets Going

Former President Donald Trump is set, for now, to face his first criminal trial this week, with jury selection for proceedings in New York City set to get moving Monday. And he’s characteristically lashing out.

Rehashing already rejected claims about supposed misconduct by prosecutors in their handling of routine processes ahead of trial for sharing evidence, Trump then complained: “They could have started this Fake Biden Trial many years ago, not right in the middle of my campaign for President, and time would not be a problem. This is a blatant and unprecedented attack on Crooked Joe Biden’s Political Opponent (who is leading in every poll!), done in close coordination with the White House, that cannot be allowed to go forward!”

The following can’t be overstated. There is no evidence in the real world of the White House running the criminal case against Trump that is unfolding in New York, where prosecutor Alvin Bragg — a state (rather than federal) authority — is accusing Trump of falsifying business records in connection to hush money from before the 2016 elections. Trump repeats some version of this claim ad nauseam, but he’s yet to produce any confirmation of the idea. It’s not there! There’s a reason why these posts from the ex-president tend not to make specific, evidentiary claims and instead just focus on the gist of what Trump is trying to allege: that President Joe Biden and/or his political team are secretly running things.

In a recent discussion on CNN, the network’s legal analyst Elie Honig predicted that Trump and his team had “nothing” to any remaining attempts to keep the trial at bay. “Any such effort, though, is doomed, both in terms of substance. He’s got nothing here in terms of his arguments and in terms of procedure and in terms of timing,” Honig said on the air.
