Fox News Publishes An Op-Ed Deeming Marjorie Taylor Greene A Destructive ‘Idiot’

Fox News has published an opinion piece from conservative journalist Liz Peek that deems — in its title, no less! — infamous Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) an “idiot.”

The text of the article itself doesn’t use that language, but Peek still excoriates Greene for recent antics, which have culminated in a looming threat from the Georgia Republican of pursuing (to a greater extent) the removal of Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) as Speaker of the House. That already happened once during this Congress, creating weeks of procedural paralysis as the legislative chamber’s GOP majority struggled to unify behind a new pick. If Greene’s push against Johnson goes to a vote by the full House, it’s not really a given that Democrats would salvage Johnson’s stint as Speaker in sufficient number absent some kind of deal-making of a sort that the last guy (Kevin McCarthy) avoided for some reason.

Peek’s perspective is that Greene is damaging conservative ambitions.

“It’s high time someone in the Republican Party told Marjorie Taylor Greene to turn all that bombastic self-serving showmanship and drama queen energy on Democrats, and stop trying to defeat her own party,” Peek, a Fox News contributor, wrote online.

Peek then discussed some of the latest points of contention in Greene’s legislative chamber, including potential foreign aid for Ukraine (and others) and the handling of federal powers of surveillance oriented around combating foreign threats. “The internal squabbles of the party need to stop. If Marjorie Taylor Greene and others want to oppose aid to Ukraine or the FISA bill, they can vote against it. That’s how democracy works,” Peek continued.

For now, Greene seems likely to continue serving in the House as long as she keeps running for the spot. Her Congressional district in northwest Georgia is heavily Republican. She’s known, besides her behavior within the confines of Congress, for her avid support of former President Donald Trump, who’s on trial in New York City on criminal charges while coasting to an expected presidential nomination this year from Republicans.
