For some reason, former President Donald Trump took a break this week from the circumstances of his ongoing criminal trial in New York City to complain about this year’s edition of the Academy Awards, which was aired more than a month ago.

Trump posted a repeatedly incorrect rant focusing on the event’s host, Jimmy Kimmel. Trump criticized Kimmel for supposedly flubbing his presentation of the night’s “Best Picture” award — although Kimmel didn’t present the award at all, and Trump called it by the wrong name. Somehow, he came up with the moniker “Picture of the Year” for the honor, which is… not what it’s called. Trump didn’t bother Googling it?

“In fairness to our former President, many stable geniuses confuse me with Al Pacino….,” Kimmel quipped in a response posted to social media, referring to the actual presenter of this year’s award for “Best Picture.” Kimmel’s reply was viewed millions upon millions of times, per metrics for that from X, the site formerly called Twitter.

In his original remarks, Trump also referred to Kimmel’s wife — who is actually also an executive producer and co-head writer for Kimmel’s show on ABC. “It’s a great honor to be part of the team that gets under Trump’s orange skin night after night. – “his wife,”” Molly McNearney added online.

Trump also complained about Kimmel’s hosting of this year’s Oscars that very night, posting an angry rant on Truth Social from which Kimmel actually read on stage at the event to laughter from the crowd. “See if you can guess which former president just posted that on Truth Social,” Kimmel told the entertainment industry audience, referring to Trump’s public anger. “Anyone? No? Well, thank you, President Trump. Thank you for watching. I’m surprised you’re still up. Isn’t it past your jail time?” Kimmel’s concluding quip produced more laughs and cheering from attendees across the venue.
