Who is going to give the Democrats’ response to Donald Trump’s State of the Union address? Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) just announced that he has invited a woman who might have — maybe should have — been governor in a southern state. Unfortunately, there was the possibility of voter interference.
Stacey Abrams ran her Democratic campaign with tireless enthusiasm and related to all of her constituents. She went to Georgia’s counties and listened to what the people had to say.
After a close and disappointing loss, she focused on fixing “voting rights.” Schumer said:
‘NEW: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announces Stacey Abrams will deliver the Democrats’ response to the State of the Union. “She has led the charge for voting rights, which is at the root of just about everything else.”‘

People describe Abrams as a rising star in the party. Schumer contacted her three weeks ago to talk to her about the idea of her giving the Democrats’ rebuttal to Trump’s address. She accepted.
The State of the Union was moved back one week, after POTUS shut down the government for over a month and at a cost of $11 billion and counting. House of Representative Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) refused to let Trump into her House until he reopened the government.
