It’s hard to imagine that anyone is still buying that journalists, government officials, members of Trump’s own administration, and anyone else who dares criticize the president is lying while that same president who lies multiple times every day is the only one telling the truth. However, Trump’s supporters are still buying into it, and Trump is still pushing the lies.
Perhaps the “fake news” reporting that has upset Trump was this:
‘During our visits to five Border Patrol facilities and two ports of entry in the Rio Grande Valley,2 we reviewed compliance with CBP’s Transport, Escort, Detention and Search (TEDS) standards, which govern CBP’s interaction with detained individuals,3 and observed serious overcrowding and prolonged detention of unaccompanied alien children (UACs),4families, and single adults that require immediate attention.’
However, that isn’t a report from the news media. That’s a report from Trump’s own Department of Homeland Security Inspector General’s office.
No matter how many times Trump insists that these detention centers are necessary, that they’re the fault of Democrats, or that there was an immigration crisis when he was elected, or that every single negative report about him is a lie, the truth is that reports about the conditions in migrant detention centers has been confirmed through numerous sources, that illegal immigration has reached a new low prior to Trump’s presidential campaign, and that the “crisis” is of Trump’s own making. There was never a reason to throw thousands of undocumented immigrants in detention centers, overcrowding them and causing the deaths of children. The only people who still believe that are Trump’s racist fanbase, and facts don’t mean much to them, anyway.
The New York Times is standing by its reporting, as well as its sources.
‘The accounts of what happened at Clint and at nearby border facilities are based on dozens of interviews by The New York Times and The El Paso Times of current and former Border Patrol agents and supervisors; lawyers, lawmakers and aides who visited the facility; and an immigrant father whose children were held there. The review also included sworn statements from those who spent time at El Paso border facilities, inspection reports and accounts from neighbors in Clint.’
Twitter wasn’t buying Trump’s lies, either. Read some of their comments below:
