Jen Psaki Dunks On GOP Phony Outrage Over MLB All-Star Game

During a Tuesday press conference at the White House, press secretary Jen Psaki shredded the premise of recently enacted election restrictions in Georgia, where new voter ID requirements are now in place for mail-in voting, mobile polling places are now banned, drop boxes for mail-in/ absentee ballots are now limited to business hours, and more. In short, she noted, the legislation is “built on a lie.” It’s responding to the completely imaginary problem of systematic election fraud that, in reality, simply doesn’t exist. No systematic problems were discovered with the Georgia system previously in place.

Psaki addressed this issue in the context of the recent decision by Major League Baseball to move their All-Star Game out of Georgia in protest of the new restrictions. Asked the laughably bad faith question by Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy whether the White House is “concerned that Major League Baseball is moving their All-Star Game to Colorado where voting regulations are very similar to Georgia,” Psaki refuted his premise, replying as follows:

‘Colorado allows you to register on Election Day. Colorado has voting by mail, where they send — to 100 percent of people in the state who are eligible — applications to vote by mail. Ninety-four percent of people in Colorado voted by mail in the 2020 election. They also allow for a range of materials to provide… for the limited number of people who vote on Election Day.’

More acutely, the Georgia legislation is “built on a lie,” Psaki added. As the press secretary put it:

‘I think it’s important to remember the context here. The Georgia legislation is built on a lie. There was no widespread fraud in the 2020 election. Georgia’s top Republican election officials have acknowledged that repeatedly in interviews. What there was, however, was record-setting turnout, especially by voters of color… What we’re seeing here is, for politicians who didn’t like the outcome, they’re not changing their policies to win more votes, they’re changing the rules to exclude more voters. And we certainly see the circumstances as different.’

Ex-President Trump spoke out about the suppressive new legislation this week — and complained that it didn’t go far enough. Specifically, he whined that it’s “[too] bad the desperately needed election reforms in Georgia didn’t go further,” adding that “the Bill should have been passed before the 2020 Presidential Election, not after.” Against all logic, Trump is still convinced that he was the rightful winner of the 2020 election.
