Supreme Court Leaves Trump Goon In Jail After Criminal Conviction For Defying Jan. 6 Committee

This week, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected another request from criminally convicted Trump ally Peter Navarro for release from prison. They didn’t appear to provide an explanation, simply noting their stance in the latest filings.

Though Navarro was infamously involved in helping advance the cause of Donald Trump’s targeting of the 2020 presidential election’s outcome, that’s not what directly led to this imprisonment. Navarro was, rather, convicted of contempt of Congress after refusing to cooperate with the House committee that investigated the Capitol riot.

Per CBS journalist Scott MacFarlane, Navarro is set to remain in prison through July. He was one of two Trump allies criminally convicted in connection with refusals to cooperate with that Congressional committee. The other, Steve Bannon, did receive a prison sentence, but he’s yet to serve any actual time in custody.

It’s far from the only instance of Trump allies facing serious criminal charges, though. There’s also a new criminal case in Arizona related to efforts in that state to assemble a sham slate of electoral votes backing Trump in 2020 despite Joe Biden winning the state that year. The ploy mirrored similar machinations in a series of other states that Biden also won, and the Arizona case has some notable defendants, like Trump allies John Eastman, Michael Roman (who was formerly with the Trump campaign), and more.

Reportedly, the list also includes Rudy Giuliani, though it sounded like there were delays in serving the former mayor with a copy of his indictment. And all of this keeps going, as Giuliani was also charged in Georgia in a semi-related case that remains ongoing! So were Eastman, Roman, and numerous others, including Trump himself.

And notably, Arizona authorities described their accompanying investigation as ongoing, so perhaps there’s a chance for even more criminal charges beyond this recent round.
