Senator John McCain gave a moving message about those who have lost their lives in their service to our nation. He will not ever be president. Of course, there was the man in the Oval Office who roundly congratulated himself. Then, President Barack Obama walked back into our lives and stirred our emotions with his powerful message. From a distance, he managed to take our hand and help guide us through these difficult times.
Unfortunately, many people have not been able to anticipate Donald Trump’s actions and words, because they are so self-centered and self-serving. After such a wonderful, stately president in Obama, the rapid descent to Trump’s level has left many gasping for clean air.
The current commander-in-chief’s message to his public sounded more like an invitation to a cook-out, the kind where you bring your own hotdogs, bun – and catsup. Then, the leader of the free world read the minds of the dead, knowing they would be “very happy and proud” (of him) that we have the “lowest unemployment in decades.” Would they really?
Trump ended on a frivolous note, “Nice!” leaving his people with an empty feeling:
‘Happy Memorial Day! Those who died for our great country would be very happy and proud at how well our country is doing today. Best economy in decades, lowest unemployment numbers for Blacks and Hispanics EVER (& women in 18years), rebuilding our Military and so much more. Nice!’
Then, there was President Obama’s message. Not once did he congratulate himself. Instead, 44 focused on the tremendous sacrifice of the men and women, our fallen heroes. Obama then pointed us toward a community of “justice, quality, and opportunity:”
‘We can never truly repay the debt we owe our fallen heroes. But we can remember them, honor their sacrifice, and affirm in our own lives those enduring ideals of justice, equality, and opportunity for which generations of Americans have given that last full measure of devotion.’
