For a party who likes to claim that their opponents are constantly playing “the victim card,” they sure don’t mind that their president is the king of playing the victim. Everyone is so unfair to him, everyone is in collusion together against him, and everyone and everything is just out to get him.
At first glance, the tweet is just laughable. Not only did Trump tag himself in his own tweet, but he’s also complaining that he’s being censored on Twitter while tweeting. There is also no such thing as “joining” a Twitter account. On the social media platform, one “follows” an account. There’s a button on Trump’s Twitter page that allows other users to do so. It has not been removed.
It’s true that social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook have cracked down on fake accounts, especially those created to spread false information. They are not doing so because they’re biased. They’re doing it because Congress demanded it. After the attack on democracy by the Russian government, our legislative branch cracked down on platforms allowing this to spread. The crackdown has lowered the number of followers across Twitter. If it’s Trump who’s been most affected, it’s because his followers are disproportionately bots.
What Trump is really concerned about is the upcoming 2020 elections. Without the disinformation campaign that the Kremlin used to help Trump get elected, his chances at reelection fade considerably.
