To say that President Donald Trump has had a testy relationship with minorities would be an understatement. This Friday, after hours of angrily tweeting and ranting in-person at the White House about topics including the supposed need for his long-proposed border wall blocking off Mexico, he finally got around to tweeting an acknowledgement of Black History Month — although it wasn’t much.

He didn’t even add any original thoughts, simply sharing a link to the customary proclamation he signed distinguishing February as the annual time for more formally recognizing black Americans captioned with a bit from the document. He no doubt didn’t write it, although it certainly “sounds nice” for “him” to have said:

‘National African American History Month is an occasion to rediscover the enduring stories of African Americans and the gifts of freedom, purpose, and opportunity they have bestowed on future generations.’

Is sounding nice really all that we’re going for here, though?

Hilariously enough, former President Barack Obama shared his thoughts on Black History Month on Twitter hours before Trump did. Trump has consistently marginalized minorities through means including his no doubt most prominent racist push, the border wall.

The support he’s offered for his border security positions is laughable to say the least. He has touted supposed discoveries of Muslim prayer rugs along the southern border, heavy duty vehicles utilized by undocumented border crossers, and captive women held with implements including tape — all of which appears in the fictional 2018 movie Sicario: Day of the Soldado but doesn’t appear in reality like Trump says it does.

Although his wall nonsense is perhaps the most high profile — especially lately — Trump has also singled out black Americans. He denounced NFL players peacefully protesting during the national anthem to bring attention to the plight of black Americans in the U.S. as “sons of bitches” who should be fired.

Ironically — and fittingly — the United States could have another black president after Trump. High profile Democratic presidential candidates include U.S. Senators Kamala Harris (Calif.) and Cory Booker (N.J.), both of whom are black.

Check out Twitter’s response to the nonsense Trump offered in the meantime…
