People miss President Barack Obama for many reasons. Not the least of these is his compassion. In a moment when ugliness has been the presidential special of the day, 44’s text messages remind Americans of how much we are missing. Obama brought an elegance, dignity, and patriotism to the White House that is sorely missing from the current administration. On this Easter holiday, President Obama stepped back into our lives.
His first tweet, Obama reminded people that Easter was a day of “love, redemption, and renewal.” He sent “prayers for the victims” of the Sri Lanka terrorist attacks and a call to “stand with the people of Shri Lanka:”
‘The attacks on tourists and Easter worshippers in Sri Lanka are an attack on humanity. On a day devoted to love, redemption, and renewal, we pray for the victims and stand with the people of Sri Lanka.’
Then, Obama lifted people up with a family photo from the days when this great man led us from the White House. His tweet urged voters to “recommit to love and serve our brothers and sisters:”
‘To all who celebrate today, happy Easter from our family to yours! On this day of rebirth and renewal, let’s recommit to love and serve our brothers and sisters, especially those in need, in every way we can. Have a great day, everybody.’
Obama tied the example of his family’s commitment of service to the terrible terrorist attacks on churches where people in Sri Lanka had been at worship and at hotels. At this time, 207 people including several Americans, have been killed.
