Donald Trump’s dance from one position to another is a collision square dance. When he rules by his gut, he moves on a whim. First, the country is going to war with Iran. Then, we are not. He sends out an edict to California to flood the state with car emission pollution. Then, he did this.
After attending a fundraiser in the Gold Rush state, POTUS tweeted that he was still rescinding President Barack Obama’s order. It was such a dramatic shift that people could have ended up with whiplash:
‘The Trump Administration is revoking California’s Federal Waiver on emissions in order to produce far less expensive cars for the consumer, while at the same time making the cars substantially SAFER. This will lead to more production because of this pricing and safety……’
Apparently, people would have to get rid of their older cars and replace them with “new, extremely environmentally friendly cars,” which is easier said than done. Car manufacturers disagreed but not the oil companies:
‘…. advantage, and also due to the fact that older, highly polluting cars, will be replaced by new, extremely environmentally friendly cars. There will be very little difference in emissions between the California Standard and the new U.S. Standard, but the cars will be….’
Then, Trump promised a rash of job Californians could step into filling:
‘….far safer and much less expensive. Many more cars will be produced under the new and uniform standard, meaning significantly more JOBS, JOBS, JOBS! Automakers should seize this opportunity because without this alternative to California, you will be out of business.’
Regardless, scientists believed that the White House’s changes to the federal emissions standards would:
‘Worsen air pollution.’
California demanded its own “strong air quality standards under the Clean Air Act.”
