Trump Has Public Conniption Fit As N.Y. Criminal Charges Loom

In a rambling, new statement, former President Donald Trump publicly melted down after news emerged that New York prosecutors had given his team until this past Monday to make their case for why authorities shouldn’t issue criminal charges against the Trump family business. Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance has been conducting a criminal investigation of the Trump business over issues like suspected fraud, possibly unpaid taxes, and more. In his response to the news of looming, potential charges, Trump characterized himself as having “[saved] our Country,” which is just bonkers. The breadth of Trump’s ignorant self-obsession is staggering.

Trump tied the New York investigation to investigative efforts that he has faced elsewhere, but the supposed connections between these endeavors are little more than conjectural. Trump also characterized himself as a victim of “the greatest Witch Hunt of all time,” which is just — wow. Across hundreds of years of North American history and thousands of years of modern history — including literal witch hunts! — Trump claims that what he has faced is the worst “Witch Hunt” ever.

Hundreds of thousands of Americans have died due to COVID-19, with untold numbers facing the upturning of their lives and struggling to meet basic needs due to the concurrent economic devastation, and this clown show of an ex-president is whining that facing a duly proceeding investigation in response to duly documented behavior on his part is the “greatest Witch Hunt” ever, whatever exactly that even means. Trump petulantly complained as follows:

‘After hundreds of subpoenas, over 3 million pages of documents, 4 years of searching, dozens and dozens of interviews, and millions of dollars of taxpayer funds wasted, they continue to be ‘in search of a crime’ and will do anything to frighten people into making up the stories or lies that they want, but have been totally unable to get… It is a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt of all time… They will do anything to stop the MAGA movement (and me), even if it involves prosecutorial misconduct and harassment of a political opponent, which they are using at levels rarely seen before. They leak, they lie, and they campaign based on information that has already been gone through in other of the many investigations I have put up with.’

Mirroring comments that he has made in the past, Trump also claimed that “[having] politically motivated prosecutors, people who actually got elected because they will “get Donald Trump,” is a very dangerous thing for our Country.” No, Donald — your egomaniacal paranoia and inconvenience don’t spell the end of the United States as we know it, or whatever. The prosecutors are doing their jobs. Check out the ex-president’s full statement by clicking on the post below:
