In new polling conducted by a firm called Cygnal for a conservative organization called the John Locke Foundation, President Joe Biden leads among prospective voters in North Carolina when pitted against Donald Trump, who could end up yet again as Biden’s challenger in the 2024 general election.

The poll specifically includes responses from likely voters. In North Carolina, Donald Trump was ultimately victorious by single-digit margins in both 2016 and 2020, so should the result of this survey ultimately reflect the real-world election results, it would be yet another flip for Biden’s campaign after already turning states like Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania to his side in the 2020 presidential election. The specific figures in the new polling reflected 45.4 percent of respondents picking Biden and 43.4 percent going for Trump, with a large portion, at over 11 percent, identifying themselves as undecided. When Biden was put against Florida GOP Governor Ron DeSantis, who hasn’t announced a campaign but remains a possible contender, the infamous chief executive led, with the portion of respondents who were undecided going past 15 percent.

DeSantis continues to face steep criticism from Trump, to put it lightly. Trump’s endorsement of DeSantis in the 2018 GOP primary for Florida governor was a key turning point in the ex-Congressman’s bid for state office, although DeSantis subsequently won his currently unfolding second term by a staggering margin of nearly 20 percent. His lead in the general election the first time was under half a percent. Trump took credit online for the mechanics of the 2018 victory, claiming he dispatched federal personnel amid supposed questions about or problems with tabulation processes. There’s no record of that.
