60 Percent Of Americans Reject House Republicans Amid National Economic Dispute

Though some polling has depicted Americans as somewhat split on the question of responsibility for the United States having recently come close to defaulting on its debt — a possibility still not fully avoided, newly available poll numbers indicate Americans are not thrilled with Congressional Republicans.

In a poll from Monmouth University that was released in the middle of last week, 60 percent of respondents said they disapproved of the handling by Congressional Republicans of the debt ceiling issue. Most Americans also generally disapproved of the job performance seen from Congress, a term sometimes used to refer just to the House, though it can also mean both chambers (the House and Senate). A full 72 percent disapproved of Congress’s recent job performance — which was way, way ahead of the slight majority in this same survey who disapproved of the job recently done by President Joe Biden. (That disapproving portion reached 53 percent.)

Participants in this poll were also generally disapproving of the handling from Biden and Democrats in Congress of the debt ceiling issue, though the portions saying so were slightly smaller than the group disapproving of Republicans’ actions. In general, it would just be silly and flat-out wrong to pretend as though Republicans are somehow closely in touch with the real-world interests of the American people. They’re not! As polarization further expands its reach, they’re also often disliked. At least Democrats have something on which to run other than attacking vulnerable groups and threatening the free exercise of rights like the right to free speech and the right to vote! When Republican figures block even basic discussions in certain contexts of sexual orientation and gender identity, their claims to ardently defend free speech go right out the window.
