Some are still clamoring for the removal of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) from the House Homeland Security Committee, which would mirror action that was taken against her in the last Congress in the wake of some of her obnoxious rhetoric. An unfortunately key difference was, though, that Democrats led the House at that time, and expecting Republicans to all of a sudden grow a rhetorical spine en masse could produce a rather long wait…

“Marjorie Taylor Greene suggests that the United States is behind the coup attempt in Russia,” a group called Republicans against Trump said on Twitter, reacting with incredulity to comments where she did, well, exactly that. “Shame on @SpeakerMcCarthy for putting this anti-American trash on the House Homeland Security Committee.” Recent commentary from the group in other posts has made it clear that they specifically seek Greene’s removal from the panel. Their latest post was seen over a quarter of a million times in under 12 hours, according to Twitter metrics.

Greene is also on the House Oversight Committee in this Congress. In that role, she has already helped lead attempts to rally for the cause of participants in the Capitol riot of 2021, even leading a visit to a D.C. jail that has housed detained rioters. Many such individuals have been charged with — and either been convicted of or admitted to — physically attacking police officers, some of whom were left with life-altering injuries.

Meanwhile, the House Homeland Security panel has also provided Greene with a space for spreading her false and deceptive takes about the southern border. Complaints about the Biden administration’s handling of that border have been the basis for multiple proposed impeachments of the president, none of which would get anywhere in the Senate even if the infamously ineffective GOP majority in the House managed to pass one of the proposals. (And they don’t have all day, as their control only lasts for two years, and the clock started early this year.) A push from Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) for impeaching the president was recently sent to panels including the House Homeland Security Committee for further consideration. They know Americans have real-world problems, right?
