Though former President Donald Trump has been very vocal with his frustrations as he faces what are now four criminal cases, two of which relate to his allegedly criminal attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election’s outcome, there have been no widespread protests from his supporters.

Barbara Comstock, a former Republican Congresswoman from Virginia, has a theory. On X, formerly known as Twitter, she tied the lack of on-the-ground support for the former president amid his legal troubles to the widespread animosity among Americans towards the idea of Trump regaining presidential power. “The sound you don’t [hear] this morning?” Comstock said early Tuesday. “No massive protests about the 4th Trump indictment. While many Rs still fear him,the reality is, he’s a 4x indicted, 2x impeached sore loser who the majority of Americans never want to see in the WH again. He’s running to pay legal bills.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) actually specifically encouraged her followers against turning out to protest on Trump’s behalf. “Don’t go to the Fulton county courthouse. Don’t give them an ounce of your flesh,” she said, though it’s unclear a flesh-taker is, um, around. “Let them have their empty streets, barricades, and media circus. In Georgia, we will SHOW UP at the polls!!!” Some have long raised questions about potential impacts on Republican turnout from the spread of conspiracy theories about the supposed problems seen in the process of going to the polls as Greene says. Trump continues to insist that he was the victim of extensive fraud in the 2020 presidential race, something that has never been proven by broadly accepted authorities anywhere in the country.

The fourth Trump indictment, made official on Monday, concerns more of his efforts to alter the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. Others charged include Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Mark Meadows, Jeffrey Clark, John Eastman, and Jenna Ellis. Defendants are accused of engaging in a criminal conspiracy targeting Georgia’s 2020 election results.
