Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.), a veteran who served as an Army Ranger during his military service, questioned during an appearance this week on “Morning Joe” the “mental capacity” for office held by prominent Republicans including Reps. Lauren Boebert (Colo.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.).
Crow was responding to questions about how the age of President Joe Biden should factor into considerations around the upcoming 2024 presidential race, in which the incumbent will be seeking another term. Biden and Trump are not actually that far apart in age, though somehow Biden seems the one most questioned on such grounds. Crow argued results were the most apt determiner of an official’s fitness for the position they’re holding.
“I think it’s wrong to look at age,” Crow said. “I think we should look at capacity. I think we should look at acuity. I think we should look at leadership. Last year was the most legislatively successful year since the 1960s’ Great Society legislation of Lyndon Johnson. We passed six major pieces of legislation under the leadership of Joe Biden. Why don’t we talk about the capacity of Lauren Boebert or Marjorie Taylor Greene? I’m far more concerned, frankly, about their mental capacity and whether or not they’re on the level than older elected officials.”
Boebert has infamously recently been involved in public controversy after an incident at a Colorado theater in which she was ejected during a performance of a musical for attention-grabbing behavior. Security footage even shows Boebert getting handsy with her male companion in the packed theater — notable coming from someone so insistent on baselessly accusing political targets of theirs of perpetrating, at the very least, public indecency. The Congresswoman was also vaping inside, which she initially denied, later claiming the fact she’d done so simply evaded her recollection. Is this conduct — alongside the obsession from MAGA adherents with fundamentally just political aims like potentially impeaching the president and other top officials — what we want in leaders?
