No doubt to the dismay of the Republicans focusing so intensely upon him, an overwhelming majority of Americans say in recently released polling from Monmouth University that issues involving Hunter Biden (a son of the current president) have zero impact on the decisions they’re making in elections.
House Republicans even launched a sputtering impeachment inquiry against the president involving trumped up concerns about his supposedly potential ties to deals in which Hunter was involved — but clearly, many Americans aren’t overly interested. (Also, the House GOP’s impeachment investigation remains without supporting evidence. Joe Biden has not been shown to have been financially connected to Hunter’s various business dealings.)
The specific question to Monmouth respondents was as follows: “Do Hunter Biden’s legal troubles make you less likely to vote for Joe Biden or does this have no impact on your vote?” And 72 percent of registered voters — nearly three out of four! — went with the second option, saying the legal travails wouldn’t be affecting how they’re voting. It wasn’t for a lack of familiarity, because — clearly stemming from the tsunami of attention in this area from Republicans — almost everyone said they’d heard about the legal troubles. A full 93 percent of registered voters indicated as much in the immediately preceding question.
Separately, many Americans aren’t exactly enthusiastic about the older Biden’s candidacy for president in 2024 — but it’s critical to note here that Donald Trump also consistently faces very high levels of general opposition. In other words, it’s definitely not as though there’s some fabled “red wave” materializing ahead of next year’s elections. There is one difference, though, with sometimes seemingly more Americans concerned about Biden’s age than Trump’s, though they’re only a few years apart. And it’s not Biden who is constantly posting online about bonkers conspiracy theories that have been debunked on a consistent basis for years! Neither is it Biden who is currently facing four criminal cases, civil proceedings, and a (partial) gag order after he made online attacks on court staff!
