Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.), the serially lying Congressman known for vastly overstating his actual background and now facing criminal charges upon criminal charges from federal authorities, said this week he anticipates an expulsion by the House.

Though the most recent vote on whether to remove him fell short of the required level of support to keep the effort moving forward, a significant number of members who effectively helped Santos stick around — for now — have indicated a fabled change of heart. The shifts came after a report from the House Ethics Committee that accused the New York Republican of a wide array of misconduct, including some potentially not already covered by his federal charges, which relate to various alleged financial misdeeds. The Ethics report even accused Santos of using campaign money on personal expenses like OnlyFans, which is an adult content-oriented subscriptions platform.

“I know I’m going to get expelled when this expulsion resolution goes to the floor,” Santos said Friday. He was speaking in an audio conversation hosted on X, the social media platform formerly called Twitter. In the talk, he reiterated his intentions against seeking re-election. “I’m not running for reelection, not because this was a damning report,” Santos remarked, per The Hill. “I’m not running for reelection because I don’t want to work with a bunch of hypocrites.” Despite this ostensibly moral opposition to other members of Congress, he’s refusing to resign.

A recent survey of New York state adults by Marist found a massive majority in favor of the idea of Santos resigning. Resignation supporters reached 75 percent! Even among Republicans, 68 percent said they believe he should resign. Some of the latest Congressional efforts at Santos’ expulsion come from Rep. Michael Guest (R-Miss.), who introduced such a push. Guest also serves as chairman of the House Ethics Committee. His initiative could receive a vote in the House soon.
