‘Morning Joe’ Accuses GOP’s Mike Johnson Of ‘Assisting’ Amid Russian Advances

In a Tuesday episode of the MSNBC program “Morning Joe,” co-host Joe Scarborough condemned Speaker of the House Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) for his delays on Ukraine aid.

The Senate recently approved a foreign aid deal that sets up tens of billions of dollars worth of additional assistance for the Eastern European country amid a Russian invasion — and Johnson responded by clamoring again for action on the southern border like what members of his own party recently voted down in the Senate. With Republicans leading the House and their de facto standard-bearer Donald Trump publicly complaining about the current state of the United States’ assistance for Ukraine, the Senate’s deal is languishing. Trump, Republicans’ presidential primary front-runner, has evidently suggested loans for Ukraine, besides pushing back more generally on the amounts spent.

“It’s Donald Trump and Mike Johnson who are aiding and assisting right now,” Scarborough said. “Those two people are Vladimir Putin’s best friends, not only in the United States but across the world, because those two people are what stands between Congress passing aid and not passing aid to help the Ukrainian people push back on a Russian invasion that’s just unleashed one human rights violation after another.”

Reports have repeatedly pointed to ongoing ammunition shortages among Ukrainian defense personnel, and the Russian military has recently seen notable advances in tandem with these problems, expanding the breadth of Ukrainian territory that it’s taken. And Trump is sticking also by his threat to support Russia in a potential military stand-off with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) members in the event they fall short of ostensible spending obligations, the nature of which Trump misrepresents. In real terms, does Trump even support the U.S. at all?
