NYC’s Mayor Schools GOP’s Tommy Tuberville For His Deluded Fearmongering

Republicans are sticking to their claims of migrants posing some kind of serious security problem in the United States. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) rehashed the claims in a post on X (formerly Twitter) following a visit by President Joe Biden to New York City for an interview with late night host Seth Meyers — but the city’s mayor refuted Tuberville’s contentions.

“Hope @JoeBiden enjoyed going out for ice cream in NYC while the rest of the city is afraid of crime and migrants,” a post by Tuberville asserted. A post from New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ official account on the same site responded thusly: “Guess you haven’t visited New York City in a while. Jobs are up, crime is down and we’re delivering for working people. All that AND we support reproductive health — especially IVF.”

Alabama’s state Supreme Court recently deemed frozen embryos created as part of in vitro fertilization (IVF) processes to be children — seriously upping the legal stakes of those fertility procedures and spurring concerns about long-term access. It’s part of a nationwide pattern of arch-conservative viewpoints in health care creating serious hurdles.

Meanwhile, the pattern of Republicans maligning New York City is consistent. Recently, former President Donald Trump claimed following the massive ruling against him by state Judge Arthur Engoron in a financial fraud case that New Yorkers were fleeing en masse specifically over the supposed ramifications of his own fate… something unsupported by the evidence. But the over-confident ex-president was insistent.

“Wow! Many people are leaving, or planning to leave, New York State, because of how the corrupt New York Judge, under the control of the even more corrupt Attorney General, have fabricated and “faked” New York State “LAW” to suit their own, and Biden’s hit on his Political Opponents, purpose,” Trump claimed on Truth Social, his knock-off social media site.
