At the White House Correspondents’ Dinner this weekend, President Joe Biden joked about a scenario of Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) getting thrown out of Congress.

“Being here is a reminder that folks think what’s going on in Congress is political theater. That’s not true. If Congress was theater, they’d have thrown out Lauren Boebert a long time ago,” Biden joked, to laughs from the crowd.

Biden was referencing an infamous incident in which Boebert and an apparent date were ejected from a theater back in her home state after evident behavior including vaping indoors and similar disruptions amid the crowd. She was compelled into damage control after the evening’s events, though they just added to a formidable list of serious personal happenings that ensnared her or family members of hers. A son of the Congresswoman was even arrested in connection with a series of thefts.

As for her political career, Boebert announced a campaign in a different House district in Colorado where Republican Ken Buck was leaving office. Buck’s ultimate decision to resign early enough for a special election — combined with Boebert necessarily staying out of that contest with a decision to keep serving her present term in her original district — created hurdles for Boebert. Now, there’ll likely be a new Republican incumbent at least expected in the district in tandem with Boebert trying to get local Republican voters’ nomination for the regular election process culminating in a November face-off.

Unlike some of Boebert’s ideological parallels in Congress, her original district in Colorado only sent her back to her currently unfolding term with a thin margin. She finished ahead of Democratic candidate Adam Frisch by merely hundreds of votes from hundreds of thousands cast in the district… and Frisch announced another campaign this time around.
