Adam Schiff Demands America Reject Trump For Threatening Democracy

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) called Americans’ attention this week to some of the sweeping dangers posed by Donald Trump’s continued position at the helm of the Republican Party.

“How long can the Republican Party accept a leader with no respect for our democracy?” Schiff asked on Twitter. “How long can it support someone who spreads dangerous and absurd conspiracy theories? How long can it ignore the obvious signs of a mind at odds with reality?” The list of examples for what Schiff was referencing is, of course, long. Recently, Trump has repeatedly pushed for either a redo of the 2020 presidential election or a declaration — from some source — that he was the rightful winner of the 2020 presidential race that already happened, a scenario presumably entailing Donald taking over as president. (Obviously, there remains no legal foundation for either proposed action.) Trump based recent complaints about the election on supposed interference in the race perpetrated by the FBI, accusing the agency of actions that it, quite simply, didn’t actually take.

“The fired FBI Agent, it was just reported, was given the Laptop from Hell 11 days before the Presidential Election,” Trump recently said on Truth Social, adding an allegation the laptop, which reports tied to Hunter Biden, who’s a son of the current president, was suppressed by the agent in question (who reports say resigned). A recent article in the New York Post says the FBI apparently had the disputed laptop in 2019. In other comments, Donald insisted as follows: ‘The Presidential Election was BADLY & IRREPARABLY TAINTED by the FBI’s FAKE description of the “Laptop from Hell” to Facebook & the LameStream Media – & for MANY other reasons as well.’ As previously reported on this site, the FBI apparently never explicitly mentioned the Hunter Biden laptop to Facebook. The agency simply provided broad warnings about potential foreign information operations amid concerns about the source of the laptop story as worries also swirled about other possible methods of interference by various foreign sources.

Facebook chose in the context of warnings from the FBI to limit the reach of the story about the laptop — which, it’s worth noting, still made its way around. Will most leading Republicans ever even try holding Trump accountable? If the then-president successfully made his way to the Capitol on January 6, would Republicans still stand by his leadership? In the time since the riot, Trump already repeatedly raised the possibility of issuing pardons to Capitol rioters if he once again becomes president. The range of crimes committed by riot participants includes extremely serious behavior, like brutal assaults on police. Riot members also stand accused of seditious conspiracy — and Trump’s floating pardons for the aggressors.
