Weird House GOP Attempt To Impeach Kamala Harris Barely Gets Any Congressional Support

A House proposal to impeach Vice President Kamala Harris that is supported by Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), though she’s not its original sponsor, has a grand total of… three sponsors/cosponsors as of Monday. And that’s in a chamber of 435 members.

Why are Republicans obsessing so extensively with filing articles of impeachment? Boebert has filed her own proposed impeachment case against President Joe Biden, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) wants to impeach officials ranging from the Secretary of Homeland Security to the FBI director, the latter of whom was originally picked by Donald Trump himself. This impeachment push against Harris was sponsored by a Tennessee Republican named Andy Ogles. Ogles recently went viral for a Christmas card from his family in which members, including children, can be seen holding firearms.

The articles of impeachment against Harris that Ogles filed relate to… wait for it… the southern border. (Not a shock.) The first precise reference that he makes in the proposal is to Harris’s supposedly dismal record on actually visiting the border. It’s odd how consistently that Republicans obsess over a top official visiting the scene of ostensible calamity, as though that’s going to automatically solve whatever situation is at issue. It’s not as though visiting is unimportant, but Republican rhetoric about the prospect can reach a ridiculous fever pitch, like when Pete Buttigieg wasn’t immediately on the scene after a train carrying hazardous chemicals crashed in Ohio.

Anyway, Republicans also continue peddling outright falsehoods about the situation at that U.S. border. After citing some statistics, the articles of impeachment from Ogles against Harris claim: “In permitting an invasion of illegal aliens and illicit drugs into the United States, as well as facilitating the extenuation of a major humanitarian crisis, Vice President Kamala Devi Harris has directly betrayed the public trust of the United States, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.” Harris has not “permitted” an “invasion.” Both those statements are objectively false according to any reasonable understanding. The southern border isn’t “open,” and the Republicans who claim otherwise are lying!
