Impeachment Investigation Into Clarence Thomas Sought By Ethics Lawyer From Congress

Richard Painter, a lawyer who held a position in the White House during the presidential tenure of George W. Bush, is among those expressing serious concerns about the conduct of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Another new report from the media outlet ProPublica has revealed Thomas’s presence for multiple donor events affiliated with the Koch network, a right-wing coalition tied to the well-known family of the same name.

It’s another series of revelations amid which concerned observers fear that the basic standards meant to establish impartiality in the judicial process have gone out the rhetorical window. For starters, the Koch network has repeatedly been involved in serious litigation that has come before the Supreme Court.

“Enough is enough. Justice Thomas has violated too many ethics laws too many times. If he doesn’t retire, the House should open an impeachment investigation,” Painter told X, formerly Twitter. “The House Judiciary Committee has responsibility to investigate alleged wrongdoing in the federal judiciary. @Jim_Jordan has a job to do. He can’t just look the other way, no more than a coach can look the other way when the team doctor sexually assaults team members.”

House Republicans are currently moving forward with impeachment proceedings… that target President Joe Biden. Though the range of supposed concerns that Republicans have raised against Biden has been wide-ranging, the focus of the slowly materializing impeachment investigation is baseless suspicion of financial and business corruption linking Joe and Hunter Biden.

During an interview with Jen Psaki on MSNBC, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — the former House Speaker who’s left party leadership but still serves in her Congressional seat — expressed serious doubts that a proposed impeachment of Biden stemming from this investigation would ever even come up for a vote this Congress. Republican control of the House is moving towards the one-year mark, and what have they even done besides repeatedly come close to inflicting major financial distress? More could be coming, considering the federal shutdown that will happen soon in the absence of necessary funding approvals.
