As he runs for an expected presidential nomination from the Republican Party ahead of general elections later this year, Donald Trump is still stumbling into what some deem gaffes. In a recent speech, he again referred to Barack Obama in place of Joe Biden when trying to reference the current president.
Trump has previously tried explaining away his references to Obama in place of Biden, but the verbal slip-ups extend into even more glaring territory. For example, he referred to Nikki Haley amid earlier campaigning when discussing allegations of his that actually involved Speaker Emerita Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — and the two of them have very little in common, politically. Haley, a former member of Trump’s administration, is the ex-president’s last remaining serious challenger in the GOP’s presidential primary, though she’s not making much progress. And Pelosi is, well, not!
“We need to talk about why there is so much focus on Biden’s age, as he navigates multiple tough situations effectively, and so little on Trump, who can’t even remember who the current president, his November opponent, is,” former federal prosecutor Joyce White Vance wrote recently on X, formerly Twitter. Vance was a lead U.S. prosecutor in Alabama during the presidential tenure of Barack Obama.
Rev. Al Sharpton also recently addressed Trump’s latest “gaffes” in a discussion on MSNBC. Sharpton characterized Trump as clearly “incoherent” and deemed the former president’s behavior “indefensible,” even as a large portion of the Republican Party remains solidly in line behind Trump’s campaign for president.
Current President Joe Biden, who is expected to face Trump in general elections this fall, is facing incessant conspiracy theories questioning his fitness for office in connection with his age… but there’s no specific evidence establishing that the leading Democrat falls short. And he’s not the one who still insists he won a presidential election that every credible authority characterizes otherwise, alleging the existence of an extensive, nationwide conspiracy targeting him personally that has never been substantiated by the evidence.
